Today would have been John Lennon's birthday. I only know that because Google changed their logo in his honor and I clicked on it. I have lived a distinctly different life than John Lennon did. I'm simpler, more careful, and definitely more conservative than he was. I like most of his music, and I was shocked when I heard he'd been shot, but I didn't weep. Today, I cried.
During the last few months, the tiny circle of my life has been jarred with the pain of suicides, news of parents torturing children, innocent kids hanging themselves from bullying. My eyes blink back the tears as I shut off the news pouring in and then the famous soft voice:
“Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.”
No John, you aren't the only one.
